“But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.” Jeremiah 31:33Archive for December, 2007
Open Your Pantry to the Poor and Needy
“She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.” Proverbs 31:10
First, I’ll share a commentary on the verse and then propose an idea for you to try in the New Year:
Matthew Henry Says Wait for God’s Blessing- Not Debt!
“She also plants a vineyard, but it is with the fruit of her hands; she does not take up money, or run into debt, to do it, but she does it with what she can spare out of the gains of her own housewifery. Men should not lay out any thing upon superfluities, till, by the blessing of God upon their industry, they have got before-hand, and can afford it; and then the fruit of the vineyard is likely to be doubly sweet, when it is the fruit of honest industry.” Matthew Henry Commentary on Proverbs 31:16
Homemaker…Are You Evangelizing or Too Busy?
Forgive Me God, I Had No Time
The year slipped by and time was spent,
And all the good things that I meant
To do were left undone because…
I had no time to stop and pause;
But rushed about, went here and there,
Did this and that, was everywhere.
I had no time to meditate
On things worthwhile. No time to wait
Upon the Lord and hear Him say,
“Well done, My child, you have shown the way.”
And so I wonder, after all,
When life is o’er and I am called
To meet my Savior in the sky,
Where saints live on and never die,
If I can find one soul I have won
To Christ by some small deed I have done.
Or will I hang my head and whine,
“Forgive me, God, I had no time”?

Here’s a parable we’re all familiar with. Jesus gives instruction about forgiveness:
Then Peter came to Him and said, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven. Therefore the kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. And when he had begun to settle accounts, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents. But as he was not able to pay, his master commanded that he be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and that payment be made. The servant therefore fell down before him, saying, ‘Master, have patience with me, and I will pay you all.’ Then the master of that servant was moved with compassion, released him, and forgave him the debt. Republican Debate Question on Debt
The following question was the opening question to Republican presidential candidates during a debate in Iowa on 12/12/2007. The Comptroller General has said the US faces a Tsunami of debt that is a great threat to our National Security. Do you agree our country’s financial situation creates a security risk and why or why not?
Mike Huckabee was the only one who gave a biblical answer, which of course was the right answer. Here is an excerpt from his answer in regards to our relationship to our lenders:
“Who feeds us, who fuels us, who helps us to fight, that’s to whom we are enslaved”
Here is what the Bible says: Read the rest of this entry »
Crown Uses Rick Warren’s Method to Ask For Money
Howard Dayton of Crown Financial Ministries stated the following on 12/10 in his plea the listeners for money:
“When you give to Crown [Financial Ministries], you’re helping every church, every ministry, because as the generosity tide rises, by giving to Crown, you’re helping fund the work of Christ literally around the world. “
Those of you who are familiar with The Purpose Driven Life will recall this statement:
“No surfer goes into the ocean and creates his own waves. They ride the waves that are there that day.” Rick Warren, Purpose Driven Life Read the rest of this entry »
Christmas Debt is Blasphemous!
All debt is blasphemous (except for money lent by a Christian to a poor Christian who finds his/herself in dire circumstances-Deuteronomy 15:7-10; Lev 25:35-28; Luke 6:35-36) because it tells the world that we have a God who is unwilling and/or unable to provide the needs of His children. It tells the world, some of which give houses (free!) and other gifts to their children, that our Father is evil and not good to His children:
“For what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!” Matthew 7:9-11 Read the rest of this entry »
Crown Keeps Insisting That You Are Sovereign
In Money Matters’ broadcast on 12/10/07 Howard Dayton advised, “Commit YOUR [financial] plan to the Lord and ask Him to bless it.” Is this biblical?
Well, I wanted to find out and so I looked up passages dealing with us committing anything to the Lord. We are encouraged to commit our ways to the Lord, but that doesn’t mean we are to submit OUR plans to the Lord for Him to bless it. Who is Lord in that scenario? Who is Sovereign? You or God?
Here is a great commentary by Matthew Henry that includes the various passages on what it means to commit our ways to God: Read the rest of this entry »
Puritan Catechism by Spurgeon
“I am persuaded that the use of a good Catechism in all our families will be a great safeguard against the increasing errors of the times…”- C.H. Spurgeon.
Click here for the full catechism.
Catechism is a summary of religious (Christian) doctrine often in the form of questions and answers. Our family works on one question and answer each week. We memorize the question and answer as well as the Scripture proof texts. It’s a handwriting assignment for our daughter in homeschool.
Please leave your ideas for how you study/learn catechism in your home. Which ones do you use? Why or how do you use them?
