“But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.” Jeremiah 31:33

A Great Hymn For Those Who Are Forsaking All

Have you forsaken the systems of this world, including debt, to pick up your cross and follow Christ? Here is a great hymn that will remind us, that it’s all for the glory of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ:

I’d Rather Have Jesus

  1. I’d rather have Jesus than silver or gold;
    I’d rather be His than have riches untold;
    I’d rather have Jesus than houses or lands;
    I’d rather be led by His nail-pierced hand

Should Christians Still Follow OT Laws?

Some of the objections we’ve encountered regarding Scripture and debt is that (some say) Christians no longer need to follow the laws of the Old Testament. Now, there are teachings in the New Testament on debt and a specific command to “owe no man any thing.”(Romans 13:8). Yet, there are many more commands, teachings, and examples found in the Old Testament. Should Christians ignore those, or are we required to obey the law? For clarification, I’m not talking about obeying the law for justification. We are saved through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ alone: “Man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law. ” (Romans 3:28) What are Christians to do today with the commands of God in the Old Testament? Here are teachings from Henry, Gill and Spurgeon which I hope will help you, not only with the debt issue, but Christian living in general:

“Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.” (Romans 3:31) Read the rest of this entry »

Is Not Tithing, Idolatry?

There are many who claim that we are no longer commanded to tithe as “New Testament Christians.” We will dedicate future posts to this issue. We truly believe God when He says: “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” (2 Timothy 2:16). Therefore, we look to both the Old and New Testaments for guidance on who to glorify God in all that we do, including in our giving.

However, for those of you who only follow the New Testament, consider this verse with the following commentaries by Matthew Henry and John Gill:

“Thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege?” Read the rest of this entry »

Encouragement for Renters

“The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish.” Proverbs 14:11

Are you feeling discouraged because you are renting and not sinning by getting a mortgage in order to separate yourself unto God? Are you diligently praying and saving to buy your own home and land, trusting God and Him alone to provide? Here are some commentaries on the above verse that we hope will encourage you to keep looking to Christ, the Author and Finisher of your faith, even in this area: Read the rest of this entry »

Christ’s Rewards For Those Who Forsake Houses

“And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name’s sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life. ” Matthew 19:29

We are studying the Bible more and more on the issue of home ownership since owning a home seems to be a stumbling block to many who might otherwise repent of their sin of using debt. Home ownership is not a sin unless it’s an idol or acquired using a mortgage. Otherwise, it’s a great possession that can be used of the Lord for His glory, not the homeowner’s.

A Christian homeowner is not to boast of his/her home (and when you get a mortgage by the way, you are boasting…we will cover this in another post). Instead, the Christian is to boast in God who is the Provider of all good gifts. When a bank provides you with a loan, your lender is your master and provider, not God. And no, He doesn’t use debt to provide. He really is a Great God and a Great Provider who doesn’t use sin to bless His children. But I digress…

What does it mean to forsake a a house? What does it mean when our Lord says that these will inherit eternal life? Read the rest of this entry »

Hi. If you say these words, you commit blasphemy.

Similar to telling a police officer, “I didn’t realize I was going 87 miles per hour,” many Christians are going to have to answer to the Lord for blaspheming His holy name.

Exodus 20:7 “Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.”

Many Christians, including pastors, don’t realize that several words in wide use in the English language today are blasphemous uses of the Lord’s name.  This is partly Hollywood’s fault, and partly the fault of weak preaching from the pulpit.  We’re told that these words, used as exclamations, are okay.  “They’re not really cuss words, they’re words that kids can say!”  In fact, kids have been saying these words in the entertainment industry since “Leave It To Beaver”.
