“But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.” Jeremiah 31:33

Biblical Productivity – Part I

Productivity is a huge money making industry. Yet, Christians have the best tools, tips, and techniques for productivity right in our living rooms, bedrooms or computer desks. They’re all in the Bible. Why would you ever ignore God’s Word as a source to help you be the most productive at your job or in business? In this series of articles, we’ll start at the very beginning when it comes to productivity, and that is work.

The fourth commandment says,

“Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. ” (Exodus 20:8-11)

The command is not only to observe the Sabbath, but to work six days. Are you working six days? Or have you bought into “get rich schemes” that promise that you need only work a couple hours a day for a few days a week. Do you take Saturdays off? If we want God to bless the works of our hands, we must obey Him. You need to be working six days. Make it your goal to work hard for six days.

On the other hand, you should be resting and worshiping the Lord on the Sabbath. First and foremost, you should keep the Sabbath holy because God commands us to. Also, by keeping the Sabbath you will be more productive because you will be more refreshed for the week ahead. Last, you will have more wisdom from the Lord, which is a gift and blessing as a result of your obedience. Remember, King Solomon did not ask for more riches, He asked for wisdom. Wisdom is the one of the most important things you’ll need to be productive in your work.
