“But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.” Jeremiah 31:33

John Calvin and Independence Day

Who is John Calvin and what’s he got to do with Independence Day?  Arguably, it’s the work of  God in and through John Calvin that resulted in the birth of America.  John Calvin is the true founding father of this nation.  Yet, many of us have never heard of him, certainly not growing up in public schools. Sadly,  most churches and Christians  ignore Church history, and could care less who died and fought in the past for the faith.   Read the rest of this entry »

Preparing for an Economic Storm

The book of Proverbs tells us “The prudent man forseeth the evil, and hideth himself:  but the simple pass on, and are punished.” (Prov. 22:3, 27:12)

The American economy is souring fast, and it appears that every American household is about to get hit with an enormous tax bill, if the cap and trade legislation passes in the Senate and becomes law.  Early estimates from some lawmakers said the tax would cost every American household $175 per year.  Read the rest of this entry »

The “S” Word

When did the word “sin” become such a horrible word in the Christian community?   You rarely hear the word anymore. Today, we’ve replaced sin with words like “wrong”, “mistake”, “bad”, “foolish”, and “unwise.”  People mentally contort themselves to say anything but the word sin.  Yet, that’s what God calls our thoughts, behaviors, and words that break His commandments.  Christians need to be encouraged in these hard times to preach the Gospel the way we are commanded to.  We should never be afraid to proclaim “thus saith the Lord. ” Go ahead and use the  “S” word.

“And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead.  To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.” (Acts 10: 42-43)

What  synonyms do you hear for the word “sin,” when “sin” should be used?

Adam Clarke’s Commentary on Revelation 1:1

Some food for thought, with the text I’ve highlighted in bold of particular interest:

“(I)f the book were written before the destruction of Jerusalem, and the prophecies in it relate to that destruction, and the civil wars among the Romans, which lasted but three or four years, then it might be said the Revelation is of things which must shortly come to pass. But if we consider the book as referring to the state of the Church in all ages, the words here, and those in Rev_1:3, must be understood of the commencement of the events predicted…”

Governor Mark Sanford’s Sin and Yours

Don’t be too quick to point out the spec in Governor Mark Sanford’s eye without first taking out the beam lodged in your own (see the video below).  Even the secular humanists understand that adultery is sin. They may never couch it in biblical terms: Thou shalt not commit adultery.  But we’re not so far ignorant of God’s laws (not yet) that everyone knows that cheating is a sin.  Governor Sanford did commit a sin. He sinned against the Creator of the Universe, God, and Christians and others alike should rightly condemn his actions for it.  However, why don’t you see that your lack of repentance towards your debt is just as bad? Send them to jail

Here’s a group of pastors that will be going to jail soon, and deservedly so:

“CHICAGO — Declaring that clergy have a constitutional right to endorse political candidates from their pulpits, the socially conservative Alliance Defense Fund is recruiting several dozen pastors to do just that on Sept. 28, in defiance of Internal Revenue Service rules.

The effort by the Arizona-based legal consortium is designed to trigger an IRS investigation that ADF lawyers would then challenge in federal court. The ultimate goal is to persuade the U.S. Supreme Court to throw out a 54-year-old ban on political endorsements by tax-exempt houses of worship.” Read the rest of this entry »

God strikes down His enemies

“Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the LORD, and he shall save thee.” (Prov. 20:22)

Praise God for smiting Kim Jong Il! God’s church has been persecuted by the wicked in North Korea for years now, in ways which are unimaginable to us here in America. Indeed, we’ve known for years that he’s been killing Christians in a Nazi-style gas chamber. Though our Christian brothers and sisters are still in dire circumstances in the heathen nation of North Korea, and our country has ignored their plight, God is patient and has not forgotten them. As He strikes an enemy of the Gospel with a fate worse than death, let us reflect on the goodness of God, His holiness, and His divine judgment.

Though we pray for our enemies, God will not be mocked forever. As the Israel of God cries out, “How long, o Lord, how long,” we know that He is listening. While Kim Jong Il will be going to hell if God does not call him to repent before his death, we can know that he was certainly aware of the Gospel, having decided to rid his country of Christians.

Pray for God’s church around the world, as it goes through tribulation and trials. And praise God, from whom all blessings flow!
