“But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.” Jeremiah 31:33

Another Take On Student Loans

I wanted to add some more thoughts to the discussion on college loans we’ve been having. Not only is it good advice to NOT take out a loan for a university degree, the evidence is now piling up that it might be better to avoid college all together. Many of us in the home schooling movement have already covenanted to never have to send our children to a secular college. Our entire society will have to reconsider how it educates its people soon, if some predictions come to pass. Read the rest of this entry »

Jobless Rate Climbs, Moms You Can Help

The Associated Press reported this today, “employers cut a larger-than-expected 467,000 jobs in June and the unemployment rate climbed to a 26-year high of 9.5 percent.”  The story goes on to say that economists predict the jobless rates to climb to 10 percent.   With these statistics in mind, I’d like to address moms.  Are you diligently working FROM home in order to preserve and help build your family’s wealth? Why I Told My Brother NOT to Get Student Loans

My brother called and asked whether I thought it would be wise to take out student loans for his first year of college.  Well, you know my response based on the post title, but let me give some background information and biblical support.

I was the first person in my family to go to college. I couldn’t stop there though. At the time I had to prove to the world that this black girl from a poor inner city neighborhood, who lived four houses down from a brothel ( a polite description of it), could be anything she wanted to be. So, I went to an ivy league university and after graduation I went to law school. So what was the price tag for all of that? To be honest, I don’t even know. All I knew was that I had scholarships, worked three jobs, and of course, grabbed easy to get student loans. Now that I’m a Christian, and God has renewed my mind by His Word, I had the opportunity to counsel my brother on whether he should take out student loans.   And what did I say when he asked? Trading Morals for Dollars in a Recession

I wanted to offer a biblical response to Trading Morals for Dollars in a Recession by Jennifer Saranow.  It’s a great topic for us all to consider as we sell our stuff in order to eliminate debt and/or relocate.  It’s especially important to consider for those of you “crazies” out there who saved your money over the last several years to buy your home with cash, and no mortgage (count us in as one of those crazies).  Or, perhaps you’re the buyers covered in the article. You’re In Debt Because You Listened to False Prophets

You’re in debt because you  listened to false prophets like the ones in this video.  Whether these are the false prophets on radio who tell you that it’s fine to get into debt because it’s the “American Way”, the false prophets in public schools who taught you that you need to go into debt for college or you’ll be a nobody, or the false prophets you watch on television every morning, teaching you how to swindle God out of money if you just have enough faith. Should Student Loans Be Forgiven?

The Associated Press is reporting the following regarding student loans: “Starting this week, anyone with a federal student loan can apply for a program, run by the Department of Education, that caps monthly payments based on income, and forgives remaining balances after 25 years. Those choosing to work in public service could have their loans forgiven after just 10 years.” Read the full article here.

As Christians, we must always look to the Bible to determine right and wrong. Let’s do that as we think about this story.  Forgiveness is a biblical virtue.  So is forgiving loans. Upon first glance then, it seems like this forgiveness program is a great thing. Read the rest of this entry »

Should Christians Consolidate Loans?

Should Christians consolidate loans?  Crown Financial Ministries says that “consolidation can make sense”.  The article goes on to state,  ” a consolidation loan can be a smart idea, if the person consolidating does not borrow more than what is actually needed to pay the outstanding bills.”  Note that while the article contains Bible verses, none of the verses address or support the issue of whether a Christian should consolidate their loans. And… we’re back!

We stepped aside from blogging a few months ago, because we just got too busy with other things.  Baby, writing books, life, etc.  I happened to log in the other day, and lo and behold, there were still hundreds of new visitors logging on to this blog every month.  Because it’s apparent that there’s still a need for the information we were putting out, especially now that the financial meltdown is getting into full swing, we’ve decided to come back to it.

We’re retooling the site now, as you can see, and updating a lot of the information on here.  We’re also on Twitter, and we’re finding ways to add more value to our readers this go-around.  Soon we’ll have an ebook that will detail the steps you can take to get out of debt, the Biblical way, and an extended print version of the book, with a deeper study of the application of Scripture to how to run your household finances.  And we’re always open to questions or comments from people who are struggling under the sin and bondage of financial debt.  Please keep us in your prayers, because we get a lot of slings and arrows coming our way, just for pointing out the unbiblical, unscriptural, double-minded pop psychology that’s being peddled by many of the so-called Christian financial ministries out there.
